Woman Arrested For DUI That Injured Young Brothers Released From Jail
CITRUS HEIGHTS (CBS13) - Running from CBS13 cameras, the woman accused of running over two kids while driving drunk was released from jail.
She posted bail Saturday from Sacramento County Jail, while the two boys she's accused of hitting remain in the hospital.
She wanted out of jail, but accused DUI driver Tresa Sterba didn't want to see us and neither did her husband.
"Back off, back off," he said to the cameras.
The 52-year-old grandmother was doing her best to run and shield her face, a little more than 24 hours after being booked on felony DUI charges for allegedly mowing down two young brothers.
"It's been sad and heartbreaking," said Faith Abransky, a friend of the victims.
Friends of Henry and Juan Perez are still trying to make sense of it all.
Citrus Heights cops say Sterba was driving near Mariposa Avenue and Greenback Lane when she collided with a suburban. She lost control and hit 6-year-old Henry and 8-year-old Juan in the crosswalk, while their mother witnessed the horrific event.
Abransky visited the boys in the hospital on Saturday, giving her some relief.
"Because he's alive, and I know that Henry's alive too," Abransky said.
While Juan is doing much better, Abransky wasn't able to see little Henry, who is still in critical condition, suffering major head trauma.
All the while, Sterba is at home.
While Sterba didn't want to say anything, for Abransky, her focus is on her friends.
"I'm hoping that Henry will, like, feel better and stay alive; and I hope that Juan will be better soon," said Abransky.
