Woman Accused Of Running Con As Fake Doctor

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- An Oak Park resident is facing several felony charges after allegedly claiming she was an experienced doctor and leader of a non-profit organization to help underprivileged patients, according to authorities.

Victoria Roldan-Cajina, 68, claimed she earned a degree from Cambridge and displayed phony credentials as part of an elaborate fraud ring she conducted with another suspect, according to the Sacramento Police Department.

Investigators said Roldan-Cajina told victims she was a psychiatrist providing educational, medical and counseling services, and partnered with another suspect who allegedly claimed to be a neurosurgeon.

The pair raised tens of thousands of dollars to remodel their Oak Park office, and even threw a fundraiser at the California Automobile Museum she claimed was for presidential candidate Barack Obama. Contributors were told then-Senator Obama would make an appearance, but he never showed.

"A lot of people did the work believing that she knew all these people and was a doctor, and must have had the means to pay them," said Sgt. Norm Leong.

The suspect also recruited staff and board members for her fictitious non-profit organization, but all of the payroll checks bounced, Sgt. Leong said.

When contributors complained, Roldan-Cajina was investigated and arrested. Police found only $4,000 in her accounts when they tried to recover the alleged fraudulent contributions.

Roldan-Cajina is being held at the Sacramento County Main Jail without bail on multiple felony charges.
