Woman Accused Of Locking Mother In Filthy Apartment
LINDA (CBS13) -- A 55-year-old woman was locked in a rodent-infested apartment in Linda when Yuba County Probation Department officers heard her cries for help, according to the sheriff's department.
The woman's daughter, Tyra Sherman, was arrested after deputies found her mother in the apartment infested with mice. Probation officers were conducting a check on another apartment Thursday when they heard the woman screaming for help. She was scared, hunger and weak, the sheriff's department said.
She told deputies her daughter left her there for 24 hours. The apartment was locked from the outside and the windows were blocked by boards. She also told deputies her daughter took her Social Security check with her.
Sherman is still being held in the Yuba County Jail and her mother is in protective custody. It's believed she had moved in with her daughter from out of state after suffering a stroke and was counting on her daughter to help nurse her back to health, according to Lt. Damon Gil.
Sherman was booked Friday on $50,000 bail and charged with cruelty to a dependent, false imprisonment, transporting/selling a controlled substance and violating probation.
