Winter Begins With Spring-Like Temperatures
If you wanted sunshine for Christmas, then Santa heard you loud and clear. But, if you were looking for rain or snow, you will likely end up with coal in your weather stocking.
Even though Saturday was the first day of winter, it sure didn't feel like it around Northern California. Sacramento topped out at 60 degrees, which much warmer than the normal 53 degrees this time of year.
A persistent ridge of high pressure will keep things sunny all the way into Christmas and beyond. The ridge will block any storms and keep them to the north in Washington and Canada. It won't move, so expect cool nights and warm days all week. Overnight lows will hover in the low 40s to high 30s, with highs staying in the mid 60s all week.
Although we won't see snow for Christmas, that is good news for anyone traveling on the roads for the holidays.
