Wildfire Grows In San Diego County Overnight
CAMPO, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a wildfire that forced the evacuation of 150 homes has surged to 800 acres in eastern San Diego County.
Supervisor Arlene Fletcher with the San Diego County sheriff's communications center says the fire east of Campo was 5 percent contained at 6:15 a.m. Monday.
Fletcher says the evacuation remains in effect but became voluntary overnight. She says winds are expected to kick up Monday and a red flag warning is due to take effect at noon.
City News Service reports that the fire has destroyed one structure and a travel trailer.
The wildfire began in a rural area near Campo and the Golden Acorn Casino Sunday about 2 p.m. Sunday. An evacuation center was set up in the casino's parking lot.
