Wet Storm Continues To Pound Northern California
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The second round of a wet, windy storm is moving across Northern California, bringing with it localized flooding, knocking down trees and snarling traffic on the roads.
The 24-hour rain totals as of noon Friday included already 1.60 inches in Sacramento and 4.31 inches in Grass Valley. The forecast calls for rain to continue through the weekend, with wind gusts of 25-30 mph.
A break in the system arrived on Friday afternoon, with steady rain tapering off to showers. The next intense system will arrive Saturday night and continue through midday Sunday.
Smaller rivers and streams will drop on in response to less widespread rain Friday night and Saturday then spike again quickly as the next storm arrives Saturday night through Sunday.
Showers should finally cease Sunday night, where there's only a 30 percent chance of showers.
The snow level with this storm remains relatively high at about 7,000 feet, Snow accumulation will be 8 to 16 inches between 7,000 and 8,000 feet and 2 to 3 feet of snow above 8,000 feet.

4:40 p.m. - The Bureau of Reclamation announced it will increase releases from Nimbus Dam into the lower American River beginning at 8 p.m. Friday. The increased releases are being made to manage local storm runoff at Lake Natoma and are expected to increase from the current 1,800 cubic-feet per second (cfs) to 5,000 cfs by 10 p.m. Friday. The river level will increase about 2 feet.
2 p.m. - The National Weather Service has issued a major flood warning for the Truckee River in Truckee, effective Saturday night to Monday morning. The river is expected to rise above flood level at 8 feet Sunday morning. Damage to homes is possible. Truckee residents in the Foxmead Lane and Riverside Drive neighborhoods should take active precautions and monitor the conditions closely. Sandbags are available at the Truckee on Donner Pass Road next to Truckee High School and at the Truckee Ranger Station parking lot located at 10811 Stockrest Spring.
1:30 p.m. - The holiday festival scheduled for Friday and Saturday at Micke Grove Zoo in Lodi has been canceled because of the weather.
12:30 - Highway 99 at Elverta Road is backed up after a big rig collided with a car. A Hazmat crew has been called out, according to Caltrans.
12:11 p.m. - The city of West Sacramento has announced its annual tree lightning scheduled for Friday night has been canceled because of safety concerns.
11:43 a.m. - Another jackknifed big rig on Interstate 5, this one near Laguna Boulevard, has slowed traffic in both directions. Two lanes are open on both sides.
11:30 a.m. - A driver who lost control on H Street in downtown Modesto has been arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence. She said she was changing lanes, hit a water spot and lost control, according to the Modesto Bee. Her car ended up on the sidewalk.
11:20 a.m. - The intersection of Southport Parkway and Lake Washington Boulevard in West Sacramento has been opened. It was closed all morning after a PG&E worker crashed into a utility pole and was killed.
11:15 a.m. - Deer Creek at Scott Road has risen above flood stage; water is going over the road. Sacramento County says this is nuisance flooding. Arcade Creek at Winding Way appears to be leveling off between monitor and flood stage.
11:01 a.m. - Interstate 5 at Sutterville and 43rd Avenue is back open after a big rig accident snarled traffic.
10:57 a.m. - The Sacramento Zoo has closed for the day because the rain and high wind. Also, Friday's Marysville Christmas craft fair has been canceled but the Saturday parade, as of now, is still on. Marysville police are also going to the Feather River bottoms advising homeless residents of voluntary evacuations.
9:26 a.m. - The intersection of Coloma and McGregor is flooded in Rancho Cordova.
9:24 a.m. - Traffic in both directions of Interstate 5 is moving slowly after a big rig heading south crashed into the center divider at 43rd Avenue. Diesel fuel and debris are on the road.
9:08 a.m. - Arcade Creek in the area of Winding Way and College Oak Drive has risen to monitor stage and continues to rise. Watch latest video update.
8:56 a.m. - The two right-hand lanes of southbound Interstate 5 at March Lane and Country Club Boulevard in Stockton are blocked due to flooding. CHP urges drivers to take Highway 99 instead.
8:08 a.m. - Bass Lake Road in El Dorado County has flooding in parts.
7:55 a.m. - Eureka Road at Sierra College Boulevard is flooded. Placer County Sheriff's deputies are closing a portion of the intersection.
7:23 a.m. - Rain has flooded the intersections of Antelope and Roseville foads, Auburn Boulevard and Antelope Road, Watt Avenue and Butano Drive, and Fulton Avenue and Hurley Way. In Placer County, Sierra College Boulevard and Eureka Boulevard has flooded.
7:15 a.m. - A tree fell down on the porch of a home in Stockton. The tree began leaning toward the home when it eventually fell on the covered porch of the home. Crews say if the tree had been taller, it would have damaged the house and a nearby car. No injuries were reported. Crews have removed the tree.
1:30 a.m. - A PG&E worker was killed when his truck slammed into a street pole on the corner of Southport Parkway and Lake Washington Boulevard in West Sacramento. Full story
