West Sacramento Man, 23, Arrested After Fatal DUI Crash On I-5
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – A West Sacramento man has been arrested after a suspected DUI crash on Interstate 5 killed one of his passengers early Saturday morning.
The crash happened a little before 3:30 a.m. on southbound I-5, a little south of the Seamas Road exit.
According to California Highway Patrol, a 2003 GMC Sonoma being driven by West Sacramento resident Nicholas Balestra rear-ended a car stopped on the right shoulder of the freeway. The impact sent the Sonoma spinning out of control until it came to a rest in the #3 lane facing the wrong way.
One of the Sonoma's passengers, 21-year-old Sacramento resident Jesus Castillo, was killed in the crash. He was not wearing his seatbelt, CHP says.
The other passenger, 22-year-old Sacramento resident Nathaniel Maldonado, is expected to be OK.
CHP says Balestra has been arrested after investigators found he was driving under the influence. He is facing felony charges of DUI and gross vehicular manslaughter.
