West Sacramento To Allow Fireworks For First Time In 20 Years
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – West Sacramento residents will be allowed to buy and light safe-and-sane fireworks for the first time in decades, officials said.
The State of California approved a plan that allows residents in the Yolo County city to set off fireworks within city limits for the first time in about 20 years.
"They were illegal to have or use, and it's a big step to take," said West Sacramento Fire Battalion Chief Steve Binns. "One of our councilmembers took off with the idea, one thing led to another, and now today community members can enjoy safe-and-sane fireworks."
The four Phantom fireworks booths in the city, which serve as major fundraising efforts for non-profits and sports organizations, have seen major revenues in the weeks leading up to the Fourth of July.
"Right now sales are about $12,000 to $15,000 per booth, and we're expecting that number to double or triple by the end of tomorrow," said Phantom Fireworks representative Nick Gilbert.
Residents will be allowed to set off fireworks until noon on July 6.
