Weekend Overnight Lows Could Break Records For Chilliness
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - It's cold outside and there could be a record-breaking chill in the air overnight into Saturday morning.
Near record to record lows are possible for Saturday throughout the region, some of which have stood as the cold standard for decades.
Here are the record lows in jeopardy throughout the valley for Jan. 12:
- Downtown Sacramento: 28 in 1949
- Sacramento Executive Airport: 24 in 2007
- Stockton: 24 in 1963
- Marysville: 27 in 1949
- Blue Canyon: 12 in 1997
- Redding: 26 in 1993
- Red Bluff: 27 in 1955
Record lows could be set on Sunday as well. Freezing cold nights in the Sacramento area are in the forecast for Sunday and Monday as well before warming up a bit to 35 on Tuesday night. There will be frost on the ground until about 11 a.m., with daytime highs in the low 50s under sunny skies the next several days.
The California Emergency Management Agency warned residents around the Sacramento Valley and Delta, Southern San Joaquin Valley and points between Modesto and Bakersfield to brace for multiple days of freezing temperatures through the nights and early mornings.
Extended exposure to cold temperatures can cause hypothermia and other serious health problems, especially for sensitive populations such as the elderly, infants and people with chronic health issues. Extra precautions should also be taken to ensure pets are protected from the elements.
