Was Shooting Of Roseville Shoplifting Suspect Justified?
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) -- Investigators refuse to tell the public the name of the off-duty Placer County Deputy who shot a suspect in the back on Sunday.
CBS13's Ron Jones went to Roseville to ask more questions about the case. And again, authorities refused to release the name of the deputy. Jones tried to talk to the family of the man who was shot, but they also wouldn't comment.
Police reports say the suspect was attempting to scale a wall when he was shot by the deputy, but was the man a threat? Witnesses say the suspect wasn't holding a weapon.
"You can't just shoot a fleeing felon. You have to show that there's imminent harm to the officer's safety or the public's safety," said Attorney Jeffrey Kravitz. "I think the deputy here is going to have some serious legal problems."
It's unknown if the deputy is in trouble. The investigation is ongoing and is being handled by Roseville Police. We're told that they will continue with their investigation for the next 7-10 days, and from there, the case will be handed over to the Placer County District Attorney's office.
