Was Man Who Bit Snake Intended Murder Target?

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Audie Hogue was found murdered at a dilapidated Sacramento carwash last week. Now police want to know if the killer or killers had the right guy.

"He's not a violent person," said Dan Davis, Hogue's brother. "He'll work. He'll help you."

But for some reason Hogue, 45, was murdered, his body located off Marysville Boulevard, likely blugeoned to death.

"I've never seen him aggressive with no body ever," Davis said. "He's never been in a fight."

So his death came as a complete shock to Davis, and cops are now questioning if his brother was even the intended target.

"We're looking at the possibility that it could be related to a mistaken identity," Sacramento Police Department Officer Laura Peck said.

In a bizarre twist, when Hogue's body was discovered, many in the area reported the person dead was actually David Senk, the man accused of literally taking a bite out of an acquaintance's pet snake.

CBS13 has learned that not only did that biting happen on the same block as the murder, but Senk is out of jail on bail and lives in the area. That's not to mention a striking resemblance between him Hogue.

Police would neither confirm nor deny if they believe Senk was the intended target.

"Detectives are looking at several possibilities," Peck said. "They don't have a motive at this point."

In the meantime, Hogue's brother waits for the truth.

"It's sad it had to go this way and had to be my brother," Davis said. "You know, who's next? Because you misidentified him? He could have been still alive. But they just left him there to die. I mean come on. Why?"

Police are asking that anyone with information come forward, and Hogue's family is planning a candlelight vigil for him over the weekend at the spot where his body was found.
