Walmart Shoplifting Suspect Arrested On CBS13 Station Property
WEST SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - A teenager suspected of trying to steal a cartload of merchandise at a West Sacramento Walmart store tried to make his escape through the CBS13 property nearby and instead was caught on camera as police arrested him.
The teen was confronted by CBS13 assistant news director Mike Dello Stritto, who was on the phone with police, and a CBS13 cameraman after scaling a fence to get onto the grounds of the television station, which is located at 2713 KOVR Drive just across Reed Avenue from the Walmart shopping center.
He directed some expletives and a racial epithet at the camera before West Sacramento police officers also hopped over the fence and approached the suspect at gunpoint with the camera still rolling. Two officers arrested him without resistance.
The suspect apparently injured his leg at some point and groaned as officers cuffed him and patted him down.
He was led out of the property through the security gate at the front of the building to the officers' patrol car.
West Sacramento police say the teen, whose name wasn't released because of his age, left the Walmart with a cartload of items and then punched a Walmart security staff member who tried to stop him in the parking lot before the teen than made his way to the CBS13 property.
He was booked into juvenile hall on chargers of burglary, assault and resisting arrest.
