VIDEO: California Highway Patrol Sending More Than Two Dozen Units To Oakland For Ferguson Protests
11/27 UPDATE: While the officers were sent to handle possible Ferguson protests, they happened to be in the area of this Oakland sideshow
VACAVILLE (CBS13) — A large contingent of California Highway Patrol vehicles are heading to Oakland to assist with possible Ferguson protests.
During a live shot with photojournalist James Taylor in Mobile 13, more than two-dozen CHP units from the Valley Division were driving westbound on Interstate 80 between Vacaville and Fairfield.
The units are being called in to assist with possible protests related to the shooting death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri by a white police officer.
During two nights of protests, Interstate 580 has been shut down by protesters for hours at a time.
While there are no incidents currently to respond to, the CHP is planning ahead for what could potentially happen on the night of the busiest travel day of the year.
