Vernon Davis Returns To Stadium He Once Called Home

Vernon Davis has walked out of the tunnel at Levi's Stadium at least a dozen times over the last two seasons, but when he walks out on February 7, it will be the first time not wearing red and gold.

The San Francisco 49ers traded Davis to the Denver Broncos just before week nine of the current season.

He went from a team which had no potential to earn a playoff spot, to a team which will be taking on the Carolina Panthers for the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

It will be his second appearance in the Super Bowl; his first being with San Francisco against the Baltimore Ravens.

Although most of his playing years as part of the 49ers were played at Candlestick Park in San Francisco, the return to Levi's Stadium will be nostalgic for San Francisco fans.

Over his nine plus seasons with the 49ers, Davis was a part of many memorable moments.

49ers fans should remember this moment well:

"The Catch Part III" followed by the crying on the sidelines and the big hug from head coach Jim Harbaugh on the sidelines.

The emotion showed at the end of that play was the culmination of many years of sub-par football from the Niners before Harbaugh showed up, and of course, the normal emotion of a playoff game.

Davis became loved among his 49er teammates, but there was a time early in his career when the best words to describe him were selfish and immature.

His former head coach, Mike Singletary, had a few words to say about his attitude back in 2008:

Davis turned his career around after that moment.

The best year of his career came in 2009 when he had 78 receptions and 13 touchdowns.

He made two pro-bowl appearances as part of the 49ers. His first coming in 2009, and the second in 2013.

He hasn't had much of a contribution in Denver this season, but he has a chance to win the first Super Bowl of his career in the stadium he once called home.
