Vandal Caught After Causing Thousands In Damages To Woodland Hallmark
WOODLAND (CBS13) - A small business owner's store is trashed, shattered and nearly destroyed at its busiest time of the year.
The vandal left behind thousands of dollars in damage, but instead of being upset, the owner is chuckling because of the way the burglar got caught.
The Raley's strike played a huge role in catching the burglar. It's almost unbelievable that Terry Wehner is laughing, considering what she's just been through. The Hallmark store she's owned with her husband for more than 20 years was broken into by a burglar who went on a rampage.
"This whole area was absolutely encased in broken glass and pieces of jewelry," said Wehner, pointing out the damage of the store.
The break-in happened just a few days after Wehner and her husband had just finished putting out all their Christmas decorations.
"All the trees were everywhere," said Wehner.
She received the call around 1 a.m. from police who also told her they'd caught the vandal.
She thinks there's a chance he could've gotten away had it not been for the Raley's strike next door.
"So they have a security person here 24-7," said Wehner. "So the security saw him on the grounds and thought this guy doesn't belong."
The security guard called police who raced over to arrest their suspect. The alleged thief didn't catch a break, but Wehner says he did take one, stopping during the rampage to read a card.
"There's no problem that two friends cannot ignore, plot against, confront, drown in chocolate sauce or run over with the car," the card read.
