Deputies arrest 18-year-old probationer spotted outside Sacramento-area school
SACRAMENTO COUNTY – An 18-year-old on probation has been arrested after deputies say they spotted him outside a school they know he didn't attend anymore.
The Sacramento County Sheriff's Office says, Friday morning, deputies assigned as School Resource Officers were out at Valley High School as students arrived when they spotted known probationer Angel Ortiz in the parking lot.
Ortiz took off when deputies went up to contact him – with him allegedly speeding recklessly onto sidewalks as students walked to school.
Deputies decided to hold off on chasing him due to the danger posed by heavy traffic, the sheriff's office says.
However, School Resource Officers spotted Ortiz and detained him later in the morning.
A probation search then uncovered a large bag of psilocybin mushrooms, a loaded high-capacity magazine, cash, and other items, deputies say.
Ortiz, who was on probation for firearms-related charges, has now been booked into Sacramento County Jail to face more felony charges.
