Vacaville Brothers Head To Court Over Operations Of Family Deli
VACAVILLE (CBS13) - The operations of a well-known Vacaville deli have pitted two brothers against each other as they head to court.
John Vasquez, an elected member of the Solano County Board of Supervisors, filed a civil lawsuit in Solano County Superior Court against his brother George, the Vacaville Record reports. Among some of the allegations, John claims his brother hasn't paid property taxes and credit cards used in the operation of Vasquez Foods in the last three years.
Since 1976, Vasquez Delicatessen has been family-operated, and the brothers are the only remaining partners, according to court documents. George took over supervision and management of the company in 2003 when John ended his involvement of day-to-day operations.
The court filing alleges company credit cards were used for personal expenses, including mortgage payments. Unauthorized payments, collection of rent from the units above the deli and income from the property have allegedly been hidden. In the suit, there are also allegations of refusal to create bookkeeping of the Vasquez Foods accounts.
The Record also reports that unpaid property taxes resulted in a debt that could mean a possible sale if not repaid.
John is seeking a judge to oversee the buyout process and split the property, of which both brothers own 50 percent each, through an all cash sale.
George was contacted at Vasquez Deli by The Record, but said he was unaware of the court filing.
A case management conference has been set for April 1, 2014.
