Vacant Lodi Apartment Complex Burns To The Ground

LODI (CBS13) – A massive fire has destroyed a vacant apartment building overnight in Lodi after fire fighters let the soon to be demolished building burn.

The fire broke out at East Lockeford and North Stockton Street.

The intense fire quickly engulfed the building.  Fire fighters originally entered the burning building to fight the blaze, but because the fire was so intense, they decided to fight the fire defensively.

Crews treated the blaze like a controlled burn and kept the fire from spreading to other buildings.

Fire fighters not only let the building burn to the ground because of the danger to fire fighters, but also because they did not want a partially burned, boarded up structure that might become another danger.

Eventually, the building collapsed.  Fire fighters expect to be out at the site most of the day to watch for hot spots.

No one was hurt in the blaze and the cause is still under investigation.
