Man's Ashes Stolen During Roseville Burglary
ROSEVILLE (CBS13) — A local woman's valuables were taken during a recent break-in, and among the missing items is the remains of her late husband.
On Friday, a thief got into the yard of a Roseville home through a side gate and pried open a window. The thief then stole an urn that contained the homeowner's late husband's ashes, say police. The thief also got away with some jewelry.
Mimi Lopez-Waverly said the theft has her mourning her late husband all over again. She said her home alarm went off when the burglary broke in, likely forcing a quick escape. The burglar grabbed the urn, likely mistaking it for a jewelry box.
"There's no price on what he took," Lopez-Waverly said.
Her husband Michael passed away nearly four years ao.
"At least when my husband died, he came home to me," she said. "He came home in a beautiful box, and I had him home. He was here with me and now he's gone."
With the ashes gone, Lopez-Waverly says her husband's presence is missing.
"What breaks my heart is that he's somewhere, is he somewhere in a dumpster, is he somewhere in a field, is he somewhere, where is he?" she said.
Police say the break-in was unusual because the home is in a gated community and the alarm was activated at the time. Now she is making a wholehearted plea for the thief to return her husband's ashes and help her heal again.
"He could take anything, I would give him anything if he would just bring Michael home," Lopez-Waverly said.
