UPS Employee Accused Of Stealing Veterans' Pain Medication
ANGELS CAMP (CBS13) — A UPS employee has been arrested for stealing prescription medications from local veterans after investigators say they found several packages at a Calaveras County man's home.
Nathaniel Kirschman, 20, was arrested at his home off of Oxbow Court after Calaveras County sheriff's deputies and Veterans Affairs investigators say they found several UPS packages addressed to local vets at his home.
Nobody at Kirchman's home wanted to speak to CBS13 about the charges.
Deputies believe Kirschman stole the packages that mostly contained pain management medication while on the job at a UPS facility in Angels Camp.
Employees said that Kirschman worked at a loader and unloader at the facility and would hide packages sent from the Veterans' Affairs pharmacy under his shirt to take them home for himself.
"It's pretty bad," said Curtis Filter, who also works at the facility. "He didn't seem like that kind of guy."
Filter said that Kirschman had only been working there for a few months before the arrest.
Deputies used surveillance footage from the center's security cameras and tracking numbers to figure out the packages were missing.
"Several patients made the complaint about not receiving their medication and through tracking they were able to determine that the medication was delivered to the Angel's Camp UPS Center," said Sgt. Anthony Eberhardt of the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies said they are looking into whether there are more victims or possibly more UPS employees involved.
Kirschman is due back in court on June 19.
