UOP Tracks Down Students Studying Abroad In Japan
STOCKTON (CBS13) -- First thing Friday morning, UOP administrators started tracking down students studying in Japan, and so far, the school is still searching for one student.
Seven University of the Pacific students are studying aboard in Japan, most at a university far away from the worst destruction.
"There's a lot of concern around the campus for everybody's well-being," says Richard Rojo, UOP Administrator.
Because many phones aren't working in Japan, administrators are reaching out to students via the internet.
"We're having success connecting students mainly through Facebook, email and social media," says Rojo.
One student is studying at a coastal university, but was out of the area on break, missing the double whammy of an earthquake and tsunami hit.
UOP staff members are also tracking down almost a dozen Japanese students in Stockton to make sure none of them returned home to Japan for spring break.
There are also a handful of UOP students on their way to Japan, but at this point, the university believes those students are safe and no where near the deadly destruction.
