UC Davis Protesters Won't Face Charges
WOODLAND (CBS13) - Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig announced Friday that no charges would be filed against UC Davis protesters who were pepper-sprayed by police in an incident that made national news.
Reisig said there was insufficient information in reports submitted by the UC Davis Police Department to justify the filing of criminal charges against the protesters. Several sat on the quad with their arms locked and refused to move for police during a confrontation Nov. 18 at an "Occupy UC Davis" protest.
After warning the protesters, officers walked up and down the line shooting pepper spray into their faces. The incident was caught on CBS13 video and sparked national outrage against the officers and calls for UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi to resign.
She has refused, but the police chief and two officers were put on administrative leave in the fallout from the incident.
The district attorney's investigation into the police pepper spraying of the protesters is ongoing.
