Two Women Arrested For Falsely Reporting South Sacramento Hostage Situation

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) – Two women were arrested after Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies say they made false claims that one of them was being held hostage early Thursday morning.

Deputies were called to a home in the 8500 block of Bellamy Way in south Sacramento by a woman claiming that her friend was being held hostage by her boyfriend.

When deputies arrived shortly before 2 a.m., the alleged victim, identified as Jennifer Canlas, 40, came outside the house saying she was fine and had never been held against her will. But she did say her boyfriend was still inside and was possibly armed.

After a short standoff, deputies eventually spoke with the man, 21-year-old Arthur Houghton. They do not believe he held anyone hostage, but he was arrested on an outstanding warrant.

The original caller, 34-year-old Sierra Hossli, and Canlas were also arrested and charged with falsely reporting a crime.
