Two People Killed In Crash In Rural Sutter County
SUTTER COUNTY (CBS13) – Two people are dead and three hospitalized after a crash on a rural Sutter County road sent one vehicle into a tree and a van into an irrigation ditch.
The crash happened around 6:00 Thursday morning on Highway 113 near Robbins.
CHP says it appears a van tried to pass a Honda and sideswiped the Honda. The impact sent the Honda head-on into a tree killing two passengers and critically injuring the driver. The driver was taken by helicopter to the hospital.
The van ended up nearly completely submerged in a drainage canal on the opposite side of the highway. One person from the van was taken to the hospital by helicopter, another by ambulance. Three others in the van escaped without serious injury.
CHP says because the survivors from the van were not being completely forthcoming and there was a language barrier, it was unclear if anyone else was in the van. So, CHP sent divers into the water to search for other possible victims but did not find anyone.
CHP is still investigating the crash. They have not yet said if any charges will be filed.
