UPDATE: Hero Dogs Rescued From Burning Yolo County Home
ZAMORA (CBS13) - Two family dogs were credited with saving the life of their owners early Tuesday morning in a Yolo County house fire but the dogs suffered from smoke inhalation and had to be taken to a veterinary hospital.
The fire broke out at a home at County Road 11 and Eucalyptus Road in Zamora at about 4 a.m. Tuesday morning.
"We had heavy smoke and flames 15 to 20 feet coming out of the top of the building," Yolo County Assistant Fire Chief Dan Tafoya said.

Gizzie and Honey saved their owner, Cheryl Washington, from a fire, now they are in critical condition at the UC Davis William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital.

Cheryl Washington told CBS13 that she and her disabled uncle, who uses a wheelchair, were able to get out of the home safely after she was awakened by the family dogs, Gizzie and Honey.
However, she could not get the dogs, who were scared and hiding under a bed, to come out of the burning home.
Firefighters from several different departments responded to the fire and arrived to find flames shooting about 15 to 20 feet in the air from the center of the home. They were also told that the dogs were trapped inside.
After dousing the flames, the firefighters were able to find Gizzie and Honey and resuscitate the dogs using specialized oxygen masks.
"It's one of the biggest reliefs because they saved my life and our fire department saved their lives," said Washington while petting her soot-covered pooches.
However, Tuesday evening Washington told CBS13 that the dogs were at UC Davis Veterinary Hospital and not doing well after taking in so much smoke.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but the Washington says the home's heating unit had recently been worked on due to an electrical problem.
