Two Inmates Escape From Sierra Camp
ANGELS CAMP, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities are looking for two inmates who escaped from a minimum security detention facility in a remote area of Northern California.
Officials say two inmates were found to be missing from the Vallecito Conservation Camp during an inmate count around 9:30 p.m. Friday.
Camp commander Lt. Dale Ahlers says it's believed 40-year-old Virgen Lopez and 39-year-old Secundino Corenejo escaped by crawling over a barbed wire fence.
Ahlers says both men were serving time for the transportation and sales of a controlled substance.
Lopez was serving ten years on a conviction out of Orange County, while Lopez was serving five years for a Ventura County conviction.
The minimum security camp, which houses about 110 inmates, is located about three miles outside of the Sierra community of Angels Camp, or about 80 miles southeast of Sacramento.
