Two Hurt In Emergency Landing In Colusa County
WILLIAMS (AP) — Authorities say two men are hospitalized after a pilot of a small plane tried to make an emergency landing on a road in rural Colusa County and the plane hit trees.
Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Ian Gregor says the two men were in an experimental Lancair 360 flying from Willits to Lake Tahoe when the pilot tried to make the landing around 11:30 a.m. Tuesday because of smoke in the cabin.
Gregor says the plane hit orchard trees as the pilot tried to land the aircraft on a roadway in Williams, a community about 60 miles northwest of Sacramento.
Colusa County officials say one of the men was airlifted to a hospital with what was described as major injuries. The second man was also hospitalized, but officials provided no details about his injuries.
The names of the two men or additional details about the incident have not been released.
