Two Children Stabbed In Home Invasion, Sexual Assault

VACAVILLE, Calif. (CBS13) -- Two children are in critical condition, but are expected to survive, after being stabbed repeatedly in a home invasion, authorities said.

The Vacaville Police Department said a juvenile suspect broke into a home on the 1200 block of Balsam Drive early Sunday morning and attacked a 13-year-old girl and her 18-month-old brother while they were home alone.

The 13-year-old girl woke up when the suspect began to sexually assault her and was stabbed more than 30 times, authorities said. When the younger child awoke during the attack, the suspect stabbed him at least 10 times.

The wounded girl was able to escape the home and run to a neighbor's home for help, an act that "showed a great deal of courage and strength," police said.

SWAT team members set up a perimeter and arrested the 14-year-old suspect, who is not being identified due to his age.

The two victims were rushed to the UC Davis Medical Center and are expected to survive, although they remain in critical condition.

Authorities said the suspect was a friend of the victim's older brother, but no immediate motive was apparent in the crime. There is no indication the attack was gang or drug related.

The suspect is facing charges of attempted homicide and sexual assault.
