Two Arrested After Assaulting Elderly Man

PENN VALLEY, Calif. (CBS13) -- Two men are under arrest after allegedly assaulting a Nevada County man and leading police on a high speed chase into Yuba County on Monday evening.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department said they joined Nevada County authorities in a pursuit of a vehicle that fled after police tried to pull it over on Highway 20 near Kibbe Road.

The suspects led deputies on a pursuit lasting almost a half hour until spike strips were deployed near Marysville, shredding the vehicle's tires and forcing the occupants to flee on foot. Both were apprehended; the driver was caught after a K-9 unit tracked him down, authorities said.

Nevada County investigators said the two men attacked an 81-year-old Penn Valley man when he answered his door, striking him repeatedly in the head with a crowbar. The victim was airlifted to the Sutter Roseville Medical Center with severe injuries.

The two suspects had reportedly knocked on at least two other doors in the neighborhood and asking for money.

The suspects have been identified as 22-year-old Dillon McMahon from Roseville and 19-year-old John Adrian from Colfax.
