Two Accused Of Shooting At Newspaper Delivery Workers

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) -- Two men were arrested Sunday morning after allegedly opening fire at two women who were delivering newspapers, riddling their vehicle with bullets but fortunately failing to cause any injury, authorities said.

The victims drove their Ford Escort past the 6600 block of Bradshaw Road at about 5:00 a.m., but when they pulled their car into a driveway to throw a paper at a customer's trailer, they heard gunshots.

"I heard, pop-pop-pop," said one of the women, who asked only to be identified as Mary. "They continued shooting at us after we were out of the driveway when we were on Bradshaw."

Two of the bullets punctured the vehicle's passenger side door, narrowly missing Mary's assistant, and the car was struck by a total of nine bullets, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department.

Deputies arrested Richard Anderson and Anthony Collins after setting up a perimeter and searching the nearby property. Investigators found six handguns and rifles, motion sensors, and two dozen pot plants on the suspects' property.

Anderson was arrested for parole violation and Collins is facing charges of shooting at the women.

A woman who lives inside the trailer home said Collins' trailer has been burglarized several times recently and he overreacted to the newspaper deliverers.

"He is retired military and he was just protecting his home," the woman said. "He feels really, really bad, he really does. If he had known, he wouldn't have done that."

Although shaken, the victims said they plan to head back to work Monday morning.
