Truck Driver Unidentifiable After Fiery Fair Oaks Crash

FAIR OAKS (CBS13) - At least one person is dead after a pickup truck drove down an embankment and caught fire in Fair Oaks on Tuesday morning.

The incident happened off Sunset Avenue near Main Avenue, just east of Phoenix Park. Around 2:30 a.m., the truck was driving on eastbound Sunset Avenue when it entered a left curve and drove off the road, hit a tree and caught fire, according to a CHP statement.

Nearby residents say they heard a loud noise and called 911. When emergency crews arrived at the crash scene, they found the truck fully engulfed in flames with the driver still inside.

The driver remains unidentifiable.

The crash is still under investigation, although excessive speed appears to have contributed to the crash.

A small grass fire caused by the crash was quickly put out by firefighters.
