Travel Warning Has Some Rethinking Thanksgiving Travel Plans
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) — The State Department is warning travelers to be wary after recent attacks in Paris, something that is already changing the travel plans of some people.
Randy Long was high on a ladder cleaning out his gutters on Monday, but don't expect to see him on a plane anytime soon.
"May just wait until the heat dies down a little," he said.
His family is staying local for the holidays.
"I have relatives in Ohio and that's like 3,000 miles away. If it was something like Seattle or Portland, maybe, but something that far? Probably not," he said.
In the wake of the terrorist attack in France, the State Department is urging caution in public places and avoiding large crowds.
At Sacramento Travel Agency Travelstore, Trudy Flores says a few clients have called and canceled plans, while most are taking a wait-and-see approach.
"Right now, nobody can really cancel and get all their money back. If they're cancelling now they're cancelling for fear and insurance doesn't cover fear," she said.
Long says because of what the State Department said, his family will probably avoid crowded malls this holiday season and attend few holiday events.
"You don't want to fall into the trap of what Boko Haram or ISIS wants you to do as far as being fear and infringing upon people's liberties and things like that, but I think we would definitely think twice about it," he said.
