Tracy Teacher Accused Of Molestation Had Several Complaints Years Before Arrest
TRACY (CBS13) - A former Tracy elementary school teacher has been charged with sexually molesting his students. Now, CBS13 has learned a parent complained about this teacher years ago, but nothing was done.
According to court documents, a student and her mother told the principal about the molestation allegations. However, no one from the school notified police, or documented the original incident in 2006.
A now-13-year-old girl testified what it was like as a second grader to see former Traina Elementary School teacher Darrel Golden still on campus after she told school administrators he allegedly molested her in class.
"I would see him and I would wonder why they didn't do anything about it," the 13-year-old told the criminal grand jury.
Documents reveal administrators did not go to the police in 2006. Instead, former Principal Susan Moffitt testified that because the campus has floor to ceiling windows, she said to Golden, "from here on out, make sure your blinds are open…you are not to be in a classroom alone with students."
Transcripts say Moffitt documented at least four inappropriate touching incidents, but never wrote up Golden for the initial molestation accusation, claiming "the frisk training happened after that, the training that we received for this kind of documentation happened after Mr. Golden had done that."
Moffitt is now a principal in a different school district.
Earlier this year, a janitor told administrators he saw Golden abusing a girl, and police launched an investigation.
Golden was indicted on 22 felony counts. Prosecutors say there are a total of 12 victims.
A fourth grade girl who was allegedly molested testified in court.
"He said that he loves me and he's going to marry me," the girl said.
CBS13 made several requests to speak with the superintendent to see why Moffitt never called police. However, no one was made available to speak with us, despite teachers being mandated reporters.
