Tracy Police Chief Announces Her Resignation

TRACY (CBS13) -- The Tracy chief of police announced her resignation today.

Chief Janet Thiessen announced Wednesday that she will be stepping down from her position effective July 8, 2011.

The city's first female police chief, Thiessen joined the force in February 2008. Prior to Tracy she had most recently served as chief of police in Olathe, Kansas from 2002-2008.

"Janet's contributions to her department and the City of Tracy have been invaluable. I wish the best for her and for her desire to continue in her professional endeavors while remaining close and connected to her family", City Manager Leon Churchill said.

Thiessen was chief during the kidnapping and murder of Sandra Cantu.

"I am extremely proud of how the Tracy Police Department has persisted in achieving outstanding performance despite some extraordinary challenges the past few years," said Thiessen.

Thiessen's successor has not been announced.
