Tow Truck Procession Honors Fallen Employee
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Emma Leonard sent an eerie text message to her close friend, who she would later find out passed away.
"That day I sent him a text saying 'hey stranger text me back let me know you're alive' and I found it was him," said Leonard. "I felt really bad, and asking, and it hurts."
In March, the man who everyone called Davey was hit and killed along Interstate 80 in Newcastle. His body was found near his tow truck.
Sunday, in David Robinson Junior's memory, a procession of nearly 200 tow trucks drove from Sacramento, at the tow truck shop Davey used to work and ended at the All American Speedway in Roseville.
One by one, the trucks formed a two mile procession in honor of Davey, as well as a reminder to everyone who saw the trucks about how he died.
"It is absolutely, a very unsafe job," said family friend Sue Martin.
They say nothing can bring Davey back; but they're hoping no other lives are lost as long as drivers obey the "Move Over" law that requires anyone behind the wheel to slow down when they see a tow truck or emergency car with sirens or flashing lights and move to the farthest lane.
Friends and family also made it a point Sunday to celebrate the life of the man who left them with so many happy memories.
So, it was only fitting to close the memorial with his favorite song, "Red Solo Cup.
