Top 5 Spring Training Games Giants Fans Should Attend
It's mid-February and baseball season is finally upon us. If you happen to be a Giants fan, this season - an even-year season - means you will be paying a close attention to the San Francisco Giants this summer hoping for ring No. 4.
For those lucky fans who will be attending Giants spring training games in the next month, trip planning to Scottsdale, Ariz. is well underway. To be sure to watch the best games full of fan-favorite players, here are the five top games Giants fans should be looking forward to:
5. Wednesday, March 2, 2016 - Angels at Giants
This one is always a good one - the first baseball game of the year. To be playing at the lovely Scottsdale Stadium for a "home" game is one thing, but to be going up against a southern california rival and superstars such as Albert Pujols and Mike Trout is what makes this even more interesting.
Yes, the earlier games will be more prospect-heavy, but I'm sure the Giants starters will be out there for at least a couple innings.
4. Sunday, March 6, 2016 - Dodgers at Giants
Ah, the fabled Dodgers-Giants matchup. A classic.
If you attend this game, you already know what you're getting. Passionate fans from both teams, superstars Yasiel Puig and Madison Bumgarner possible matching up for the first time of the year, and the first true rival game of the 2016 season. Plus, the Dodgers have a few good prospects you may want to get to know of.
3. Wednesday, March 23, 2016 - Giants at Diamondbacks
This game is an away game, but it'll be one of the few times fans will be able to see the curious Diamondbacks in their new re-branded uniforms at home. This may also be the first time Giants fans will get to see Zack Greinke and Shelby Miller in Arizona - two star pitchers the team recently acquired this offseason.
Despite this game being an away game, Giants fans won't have to worry about traveling far to catch it live. The Salt River Fields at Talking Stick, home of the Diamondbacks, is located in Scottsdale, not far from the Giants' facility.
2. Wednesday March 30, 2016 - Giants at River Cats
You read that right. For those living in Sacramento, this is a great opportunity to see the Giants play against their own prospects in an inter-organization matchup. If you're a Giants fan, this will be an affordable, yet exciting experience to bring the family to.
Now that the River Cats are a part of the Giants organization, games like this are a real treat now that the teams are only a two-hour drive apart.
1. Friday, April 1, 2016 - Athletics at Giants
The annual end-of-spring training Giants-A's matchup is always a great opportunity to watch some Bay Area baseball. As one of the first games to be played at AT&T Park, they will be handing out a mystery promotion item to the first 10,000 fans. It's a Friday night, it's April Fools Day, it's a night game in SF by the bay and it's against the A's - what can get better?
Oh the price? Not bad at all, actually. Despite the game being played at AT&T Park under the lights, it's still a preseason game. The prices reflect that, as bleacher seats are being sold for just $11 per ticket.
