Top 3 Teams In MLB - April 16, 2015
The MLB season is just about ten games old, which is just old enough for us to draw some wild conclusions based on early sample sizes! Here are the top five teams, in order, based on how they've started the season - with some respect to expectations coming into the season.
1. Kansas City Royals (7-1)
The defending AL champs have picked up where they left off, winning seven straight to open the season before finally falling on Wednesday to Minnesota. The Royals were dealt some adversity on Monday, when new acquisition Alex Rios suffered a broken hand, but Kansas City will remain at the top until their record shows otherwise.
2. Detroit Tigers (8-1)
Detroit would likely be a spot higher if it were anyone other than the defending league champions above them on the ladder. Justin Verlander has been hurt and they lost Max Scherzer to free agency, but the rotation seems to be a strong point - the Tigers have given up just twenty-one runs this season, the second best total in the league.
3. Colorado Rockies (7-2)
The Rockies have always been tough at home due to the elevation, but the most impressive thing about their start has been the 6-0 record on the road. They're coming off a sweep of the defending champion Giants at AT&T Park, part of which featured this phenomenal catch by gold-glover Nolan Arenado. If shortstop Troy Tulowitzki stays healthy, the Rockies have a chance to make some noise in the West.
