Top 3 (Fake) Awards The NFL Should Give Out
The NFL is reaching the home stretch in the regular season, which means discussion will ramp up about who will win the season awards like NFL MVP, Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year.
While those important awards will be widely talked about for the remaining five weeks of the regular season, there are other awards (of the fake variety) which need the same notoriety.
Instead of looking at the very surface of award talk, let's take a deeper look at some of the less talked about awards.
Here are three season-end awards the NFL should really consider giving out:
1. The winner of the NFL's Worst Good Team goes to...
The Houston Texans!
Houston currently leads the AFC South with a record of 6-5. They are undefeated within the division and have just one loss at home.
Don't let the win-loss record and the division lead fool you. This football team is bad.
The team's point differential through 11 games in the season is -42. The Texans are the only division leader in the NFL with a negative point differential.
The San Francisco 49ers, Los Angeles Rams, Chicago Bears, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, and the New York Jets are the only teams with a point differential worse than the Texans. Those teams are all in last place or close to the bottom, except for the Texans.
Houston is, by far and way, the worst good team in the NFL.
2. The Least Valuable Player in the NFL is...
Terrelle Pryor!
Now before questioning this award, let's clarify what it actually means. In this case, the word "valuable" is going to be taken literally.
The winner of this award is someone who plays their heart out every single game, but it's never quite enough to help the team win a game.
Terrelle Pryor is the absolute definition of that. It doesn't matter if he goes for 131 yards like he did on Sunday against the New York Giants, the Cleveland Browns will still lose. Maybe he gets a touchdown both receiving and rushing, his team will still lose.
No matter what the poor guy does, his team is just awful.
And this award isn't a knock on Pryor, he's having a tremendous year, but how valuable can a guy be on a team that is 0-12? Take Pryor off the Browns and they are still 0-12.
Pryor doesn't deserve to be winless.
3. The NFL's Best Supporting Role goes to...
The Dallas Cowboys' Offensive Line!
Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliot have been all the talk during the Dallas Cowboys' 10-1 start to the season. While those two deserve a lot of credit considering they are rookies playing at a high level, the offensive line should get more love than they do.
Elliot and Prescott are two of the leading candidates for the league's MVP award, but they wouldn't be putting up the same numbers if the guys up front weren't blocking as well as they are.
The offensive line never gets enough credit. They get beat up all game and never get any of the glory. If a quarterback gets sacked, the o-line is blamed, but if a quarterback hits a 60-yard bomb, the o-line doesn't get credit for the time the quarterback could sit in the pocket.
It's a thankless position.
The Cowboys would not have the best record in the NFL it wasn't for the play of the offensive line.
