Tony Awards Show Sets Dates, But Still No Home
NEW YORK (AP) — The Tony Awards will be held June 5 next year, but where the ceremony will be held is still up in the air.
The 6,000-seat Radio City Music Hall has long been the preferred home for the awards because of its size and proximity to Broadway. But MSG Entertainment said it will be using Radio City for its "New York Spring Spectacular" from June 15 through Aug. 7. That would put the awards show during crucial rehearsal time for the Rockettes' show.
The Broadway League said Monday it is in negotiation for a space.
From 2011-12, the Tonys were handed out at the Beacon Theatre on Manhattan's Upper West Side. Other possible venues include the Best Buy Theater and the Theater at Madison Square Garden.
