Toddler Drowns In Richmond Pool

RICHMOND, Calif. (AP) -- Authorities say a 15-month-old Richmond girl has died after falling into her family's backyard swimming pool.

The Contra Costa Times reports that the girl's mother called 911 after finding the child in the pool around 1:23 p.m. Friday.

Richmond police say the toddler scaled a ladder to the above-ground swimming pool and fell into the pool as her mother watched other children in the house.

Emergency crews tried to save the girl, but police say that she died after being taken to a hospital.

The name of the child, or of her mother, has not been released.

Foul play is not suspected, but police and the Contra Costa Coroner's Office are investigating.
