Tip In 1990 Cold Case Leads Stockton Police To Manteca Home
STOCKTON (CBS13) - A Stockton missing person case from 1990 is getting renewed interest after a tip led investigators to a house in Manteca.
Neighbors say they saw investigators paying close attention to the dirt next to the garage of the home at the intersection of Park Avenue and South Street.
"They didn't say nothing, everything was hush-hush," said neighbor Rene Smith.
Stockton police say they collected a piece of evidence, but more tests must be done to determine if it is human remains.
"Right now, we don't even know what the evidence is. So we don't want to give anyone a false sense of hope. To think that maybe it is their loved one, that's why we want to preserve the evidence, take it in for testing," said Stockton Officer Joe Silva.
The coroner's office is processing the evidence Stockton police collected. If it's determined to be human remains, it will be sent for further DNA testing.
