Three Juveniles Arrested After Wild Chase In A Minivan
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Three teens are going to jail after leading Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies on a high-speed chase through North Highlands.
The chase began when deputies spotted the van speeding through a North Highlands neighborhood early this morning.
"Me and my partner spotted them over at Watt and Antelope driving through a neighborhood at high speeds and blowing past stop signs," said Deputy Jason Gillock. "Once we lit them up, they just took off."
That's when a dangerous pursuit began with speeds topping 90 miles an hour.
It ended when deputies say the driver went off the road swerving past the community center near Freedom Park and Watt Avenue. The van went into a field and finally slammed into a chain-link fence near the jogging path.
The three teens took off running but deputies spotted them hiding in a nearby backyard and took the three into custody at gunpoint.
Deputies say the two passengers were intoxicated. One suspect was out cold, sound asleep in the back of a patrol car after the wild ride.
They are investigating whether the driver had been drinking.
The white Ford minivan hasn't been reported stolen so investigators think the trio may have simply been out for a late-night joyride in one of their parent's vehicles that got way out of control.
