Three California Parks On Closure List To Stay Open
INVERNESS, Calif. (AP) -- The National Park Service has come to the rescue of three California parks that were scheduled to close because of state budget cuts.
State and federal officials announced on Thursday that Tomales Bay State Park and Samuel P. Taylor State Park, both in the San Francisco Bay area, and Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park will remain open this summer, with the National Park Service taking over day-to-day operations.
The three were among 70 state parks, beaches and historic sites that were set to close by next July.
All three are located within the boundaries of national parks: Tomales is within both Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area; Samuel P. Taylor is located in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area; and Del Norte is in Redwood National Park near Crescent City.
