Three Arrested After Wild High-Speed Chase Through Stockton
STOCKTON (CBS13) – A high-speed chase through of the city of Stockton early Saturday put dozens in danger.
Stockton police say a trio of thieves carjacked one car before leading officers on a wrong-way pursuit on a busy highway.
By the end of the pursuit, two police cars were smashed, three suspects were in custody and those that witnessed the wild chase say they can't believe no one was killed.
The California Highway Patrol says it began when their officer tried to stop a Toyota Truck near Sutro and Waterloo Roads, but the driver would not stop.
Eventually the man and woman inside made it to Hillcrest Avenue where they ditched the truck and stole a Volvo.
Officers began chasing the speeding Volvo. During the chase, the suspects drove the wrong way on Highway 99 and hit speeds over 100 miles per hour.
As officers kept a distance, the suspects stopped at Fresno and Church Streets. Once again, they ditched the car they were in and carjacked a woman in a Mercury car, kidnapping her.
Fearing for the life of the hostage, officers performed a pit maneuver, ramming the suspect vehicle. The suspect vehicle slammed into another car before stopping under Highway 4.
Officers took the two suspects into custody. During their investigation, they found discovered the so-called hostage was actually and accomplice. She was also arrested.
