Thousands Of Gallons Wasted After Semi Truck Hits Hydrant In Rocklin
ROCKLIN (CBS13) - A Rocklin intersection was flooded by as much as 120,000 gallons of water after a nearby hydrant was sheared off by a semi truck.
In the 3 a.m. hour, the big rig was making a left-hand turn in a parking lot of VeriFone, Inc. at 1400 W Stanford Ranch Road when it ran over a curb and hit the hydrant.
"We're trying to conserve as much as we possibly can. This hydrant here could have easily been flowing between 1,500-2,000 gallons per minute. And it did run approximately an hour, so quite a bit of water was lost."
The hydrant shot water about 20 feet in to the air for an hour until crews were able to shut it off.
The truck also knocked down a tree.
VeriFone is without water this morning.
