Thieves Throw Stolen iPads Out Window During High-Speed Chase
SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - The investigation is underway at a Natomas Best Buy after thieves broke in, took several iPads and then threw the evidence out their vehicle window as police chased them.
Three suspects broke into the Best Buy on North Freeway Boulevard in Natomas around 1:00 a.m. They pried open the front sliding doors and then used a car jack to lift a metal gate. They then crawled under the gate and took anywhere from 10-20 iPads.
Police caught up to the suspects and followed them in a high speed pursuit onto Interstate 80. During the chase, which reached speeds up to 80-miles-per-hour, the suspects threw the iPads out the window of their Jeep Cherokee.
The suspects were caught and taken into custody.
Officers have collected all the iPads that were thrown onto the freeway, most of which were heavily damaged.
"We think between 10 and 20 of 'em but we haven't gotten a final count because some of them are in pieces," said Sacramento Police Sgt. Norm Leong.
The suspects are men in their 20's and 30's from the Bay Area and two were on parole.
"We have received information from Best Buy that there may be other stores in other towns that may have had similar types of burglaries," said Sgt. Leong.
Detectives say it may be days before they know for sure if there is a link between today's Best Buy burglary and the others.
The suspects are facing charges for burglary and parole violation.
