Thieves Cut Through Roof To Get At Video Games

RANCHO CORDOVA (CBS13) -- 'Tis the season we hear about more and more break-ins, but this is one you don't hear about everyday -- thieves hit up a Rancho Cordova GameStop by cutting right through the roof.

Police say three thieves climbed a pole to get on top of GameStop.

"Usually they try to go through skylights or an air conditioning vent, but this one they were a bit more determined," Rancho Cordova police Detective Greg Johnson said.

Investigators believe the crooks climbed up a pole to the roof, cut a 4-by-4 square using a circular saw, and then one by one they dropped into the store's storage room.

Once in, they grabbed thousands of dollars worth of games and game systems, police said.

Police say the same trio of thieves broke into a GameStop on Madison Avenue back on Nov. 7. No roof access in that one. They pried open the back door.

And on Nov. 12 a rooftop break-in at a Radio Shack in Carmichael, they took a TV and there was no surveillance to catch them in the act.

But police are now trying to track down the goods.

"I bet you'll see an influx on eBay tonight big time or craigslist," one gamer CBS13 talked to said.

With new games like Modern Warfare 3 selling for up to $60, the thieves could be raking in the cash even if they're unloading their loot at a deep discount.

"If you come across someone that's selling them cheaper than a store, beware, it's probably stolen," Johnson said.

Police say they'll be looking through surveillance and checking for fingerprints, but the thieves were wearing hoodies and gloves so they don't really have much of a description.
