Thieves Break Into Midtown Art Gallery

SACRAMENTO (CBS13) - Police are investigating a burglary at a midtown Sacramento art gallery.

The break-in happened at the Barton Gallery on 17th and I Streets early Monday morning.

Sacramento police say a person who lived above the gallery heard glass breaking and called the police. It looks like someone was etching the window when it broke.

Laura Barton, who owns the gallery, says several vases were damaged and a $3,500 sculpture made by her late husband was taken. She suspects it will be sold for scrap.

"It's very frustrating. Usually they take them for the value of the metal, so it'll probably be destroyed," said Barton.

The gallery has been in business for 15 years. Barton says this has happened before, and it was hard to recover from. She says she's considering closing down the business.
