The Time Is Now to Change NBA Playoff Format
New NBA commissioner Adam Silver is always looking to make professional basketball better. I think one quick fix will be to put the top 16 teams into the NBA playoffs. I wasn't always on board for this, but I have changed my mind and see it as the best basketball possible for the second season.
Sacramento Kings head coach George Karl addressed this last week and acknowledged that the reason for this before was because of travel concerns. The league changed the Finals 2-3-2 format last year because they felt that was antiquated. Well let's do it now. Time to take a stance and get the 16 best teams into the post-season. You could have a Western Conference Playoff series that pits Portland vs. Memphis. They would be traveling all across the United States so what is the difference? If you need one more piece of motivation, just take a look at what they bracket would look like right now with a little over 2 weeks left in the regular season.
1 Golden State
16 Milwaukee
8 Cleveland
9 Dallas
5 LA Clippers
12 Oklahoma City
4 Memphis
13 Washington
6 Portland
11 Toronto
3 Houston
14 New Orleans
7 San Antonio
10 Chicago
2 Atlanta
15 Phoenix
I absolutely love the look of this. Cleveland vs. Dallas in the opening round. San Antonio and Chicago in a best of 7. This is great stuff. Only Milwaukee is under .500. 10 Western Conference teams would make the post-season and as fans of the NBA we would all win. Let's do it Silver, let's make the NBA even better.
