The Grant Napear Show - July 31, 2012
NFL training camps are in full swing, and the League mostly owned the Tuesday edition of the Grant Napear Show. There was a small hiccup, however, as the MLB trade deadline passed with the Oakland A's staying quiet and the San Francisco Giants dealing for a major piece in Hunter Pence. Other topics included the continued lack of attendance in Oakland (despite the A's being the hottest team in baseball).
Josh Lewin, radio voice of the New York Mets, chimed in to discuss the frantic trade deadline deals that took place earlier in the day. The Mets are currently right in the middle of a series in San Francisco against the Giants, who acquired Hunter Pence from the Philadelphia Phillies - a chief divisional rival of the Mets.
Philadelphia sports radio personality Howard Eskin gave his thoughts on the Hunter Pence trade and how it effects both the Giants and Phillies. Eskin appeared to have soured slightly on Pence, who was a huge acquisition around the deadline for the Phillies last season. Howard gave countless reasons why Pence is both a solid player but can be disappointing at times.
Michael Lombardi of NFL Network caught us up on all things NFL, ranging from ESPN's over-coverage of the New York Jets and Tim Tebow, the possibility of replacement referees, Grant's beloved New York Giants, and all kinds of other interesting nuggets from around. the National Football League.
Sports Illustrated NFL writer Peter King joined, fresh off a tour of both the Raiders' and 49ers' training camps. Peter updated us on how things are going in Napa during the franchise's first training camp without the late Al Davis, noting that there's now shade, water, and wireless internet for the media. Peter also speculated on how Randy Moss will fit in with the 49ers, saying that Jim Harbaugh has to know that Moss will ruffle some feathers at some point and is likely prepared.
IndyCar racer Ryan Briscoe joined to preview the upcoming race at Sonoma.
